I ♥ Glitch

If you still haven't recovered from the announcement that Star Wars Galaxies is going to be switched off by the end of the year (it's been over a month, get on with it I say!), maybe you are still thinking about protesting or even suing Sony. But I have another option for you which will be available by the time that SWG kicks the bucket. I'm not talking about The Old Republic. That would be adding insult to injury.

No, what I am talking about is Glitch. Let me quote the author's website:

This is not something you've seen before.

Unless you have already seen this trailer here:

I don't even want to try to describe this game to you. You just have to try it out, then come back here and comment about your feelings.

Age of Conan Turns Free

Age of Conan is now available in a limited free-to-play option, which will let players create a character with a choice of four classes to let loose in the Hyborean Adventures and a part of the Rise of the Godslayer, and limited access to dungeons and raids. What its developers Funcom hope to achieve with this is to lure you in slowly to make you change your subscription to premium when you become addicted.

However, it is certainly a good opportunity to try it out since it is still a great experience. Whilst you download the game client, you can watch the trailer below.

The Characters of The Secret World

The folks at Funcom have unveiled a page that shows some of the NPCs that you will encounter in The Secret World MMO. Each character has a shady past and is a member of a secret society, or perhaps two. The character development, storyline and player interaction is what will set this game apart. And remember, everything is true!

Runes of Magic

Gameforge have announced the release of the fourth upgrade for Runes of Magic, called Lands of Despair.

This is the official list of features:

  • More than 3,500 exciting quests and epic quest series
  • Two races, eight classes, and a unique multiple class system
  • Easy access to the game
  • Over 20 contrasting regions
  • Over 23 persistent and dynamically generated instances
  • Extensive crafting and collection system
  • Impressive mounts and battle companions
  • Customisable player houses and guild castles
  • Siege wars with powerful siege weapons
  • Public encounters
  • And much more…

The hefty 4 Gb download and the fact that I am still waiting to receive a confirmation e-mail for my account creation means that I cannot try it out now. From the trailer (embedded below), it sure looks that the game had good production values. I'll keep you posted about the gameplay in a future post. Link for the game after the break.

Weekly Recap: Elsword, World of Tanks, Hellgate London, Ruined and Top 5 Free-to-play Games

New release: Elsword Online - This is a free-to-play side-scrolling Manga style MMO fighter that has already met considerable success in the Asian region. The game only has 3 playable characters which can be slightly customized, and each character can choose between 2 classes. Why should you try it out? For the art style mostly, augmented with its fast pace and explosive goodness.

Entered Open Beta: Ruined is a third-person in-your-face PvP shooter set in San Francisco. It can be described as a mix between the graphical style of Borderlands and the fighting action of Unreal Tournament (yes I know it is a really old example, but it is the first one that came to mind). You may require a high end PC to play Ruined, but you will be well compensated for it. Why should you try it out? The characters really stand out from the crowd and are just dying to cut each other to pieces.

Voted by industry pros as the best game at the Game Develpers Conference (KRI) 2011 held in Moscow, World of Tanks is a team-based tactical World War II fighter where you control, as you rightly guessed, an armored tank. Why should you try it out? The game lets you re-enact epic battles between the German, Russian, American, and French factions by choosing from around 150 different types of tanks. Warning: driving tanks may not be everyone's idea of fun however realistic they might be!

Coming soon: Hellgate: London is set to return. This game, which had originally had high expectations due to it being developed by ex-Blizzard Diablo developers, failed to make any great impact when it was released back in 2007. However, after the game rights were bought by HanbitSoft (don't ask me, their website is all in Korean), the game is apparently making a comeback before the end of the year with closed beta testing starting next week. Me? I think that I am going to try out the Rift 7-day trial instead.

The folks at Games.com have compiled a list of Top five free-to-play browser MMOs. Whilst I do not completely agree with their choice of games, you couldn't do much wrong to try them out. Good games, but in my opinion not the top 5.

Lastly, if all this talk of gaming is too much for you, you may prefer to do some work instead. How does improving an existing Java-based MMO game sound to you?

Trion's MMO is getting a major update, and the company hopes to rope in more gamers through two new programs. Guild Wars 2 Ambassador

I only just saw the competition go up so spent all night creating this. The music is a little quiet so you'll have to turn your volume up. The words are meant to relate to how game developers, particularly MMO developers have lost sight of what they were actually creating and how things now differ from the origins of the RPG ( D&D ). I didn't use any videos from ArenaNet it's all created from the games Concept art. How the photoshop files would've come in handy! Guild Wars 2 is the only MMO to have really looked at what was being created and I applaud the developers for it. It's looking like a truly amazing game. Thanks for watching.
